Where To Start?

Family spent much of the weekend playing games.  But I was so busy finding a place to put all the "new" (some of these games are very much vintage) games that I didn't get much time so sit down and enjoy them with the family.  One thing that really stood out was how very NOT uniform game box sizes are.  It was challenging and entertaining in it's own way.

The games also took over my top 3 bookshelves, and all the space on top.  (The hat box and small bins are filled with card games/dice games, etc)

Then I moved into my oldest girls' room and took over their top shelves.  (The Snap Circuits and K'nex already belonged to them, so it was just a matter of relocating them.)

Then, when I had a handful of games left and nowhere to put them, I remembered that I have a shelf above my bedroom window. 

As far as I can tell, almost all of the new-to-us games have all of their pieces, which to me, borders on miraculous.  I do have an Othello board with no pieces and a Frogger game (based on the old video game) with no pieces.  I think we can live without Frogger, but I'm keeping an eye out for some Othello pieces that aren't a dollar each. 

Introducing the Tabletoppers Family Game Blog

 Who are we?
We are a family of 7.  At the time of this first post, there is Papa Bear, CommonerKaye/me, Zizzy (11), Wolf Girl (9), Goldilocks (5), Baby Bear (3) and the actual baby (I haven't come up with a fitting pseudonym for him yet). 

I developed a love of gaming as an adult.  As our family has grown, we've found it to be one of the more affordable and fulfilling sources of entertainment when we aren't Outside doing Outside Stuff.  So I thought I'd share our experiences here.  

We've been collecting games for a few years and haven't played them all.   Recently I answered an ad on Craigslist and found myself in the possession of around 100 new games, and it occurred to me that exploring all these new games (and replaying games we love) could be a fun thing to document. 

  What type of games do we play?
Our games are anything from preschool to adult, Jenga to Dominion.  Word games, Eurogames, card games, puzzle games, dominoes... 40  year old games and games so new the hipsters haven't heard of them yet.  Basically, yes.  We will play that. 

I'm looking forward to getting started on this little adventure with my family, and with all of you!
